CPU 414-2DP Firmware update

cemagolane Posts: 23 Rating: (0)	Hi all, I wonder if anyone could help me with this issue. I have a CPU 414-2DP (414-2XG03-0AB0) with firmware V1.1.2 and memory card MC952 RAM (6ES7 952-1AH00-0AA0). I need to upgrade the firmware to V3.0. I have Simatic STEP 7 V5.4+SP5 software.This is the first time I do this and I am a bit lost. I have seen some posts in the forum that mention 2 options: Option 1 - firmware update via memory card. Option 2 - online update (only for CPUs with firmware V5.0.0 or higher) I assume I can only update the firmware via a memory card as the firmware of my CPU is V1.1.2. Some questions thatI have are: 1. Is this correct? Can I only update the firmware via the memory card and not online? 2. If so, do I need to buy an external programmer or is there any other option? I have a PCMCIA slot in my laptop. Can I use this to program the memory card? 3. Can I do all this with the current memory card MC952 RAM (6ES7 952-1AH00-0AA0) or do I need to buy a new one? Any comments will be really useful as I am not sure which way to go. Thanks in advance.

Then, I can use again my current memory card MC952 RAM for operation. I thought I could use my laptop with PCMCIA to program the memory card, but I will need to find out if I can write onto a flash memory card or not. Cheers

Ste39 Posts: 4620 Rating: (710)	Hi After the firmware update you can use it again, attention, than just remove it from the slot you lose the program. No, to program the memory card you need or External Prommer or a Field PG.

cemagolane Posts: 23 Rating: (0)	Thanks again, I found an old PG/PC in the office.I will use it to program the Flash memory. So I only need to buy the flash memory card to update the firmware. After that, I willput backmy existing memory card MC 952 RAM and download the entire hardware and project configuration onto the PLC. Many thanks.
