M/C with SINUMERIK 840D SL data back up steps

If possible also post some importain attentions which need to be taken during re-load data when m/c lost parameters.----that meas recovery. don't only tell me to check which books. I know where the books are.I am a lazy guy but I will check when I have time.now I am very busy. I'm very familiar with 840D power line--hw,sw,backup,reload,troubleshooting,third party motor tuning...no need for books. But recentlly, our plant bought 2 sets of new m/c which system are 840d sl. I'd like to do all back up before hand them over to the production. BTW: how long the battery life for 840D sl. thanks in advance.

If I like to make archive file seperately =NCK--one file, PLC--one file, Drives--one file.(840d sl not like 840d pl, NCK file will not include drives data any more, right?). Normally I will not make HMI archive, but will gohst backup the whole HD. Q1--the question is What is the sequence to re-load those files when my m/c lost every thing.Are there some special attentions,before re-loading. (I know in some situiation for 840d pl, you should load nck 1st, then plc, and some times before re-loading plc,you should turn it to "stop" by S4-->2 on NCU.) Q2--we know in 840d pl, you clean the nck or plc indivadully on NCU by S3 and S4, and loading the back up let's say only nkc or only plc.what is the case in 840d sl, and as there is drive backup sepereate from nkc, can I clean the drive data only and re-load drive data only.for drive clean, can I do it on NCU or HMI, or I need PC+sw+com cable. thanks again for your help.

Ekalavya Posts: 2964 Rating: (485)	Hello, In the 840DSL the HMI which is used here noramly with Sinumerik operate /as well as HMI advance Yes NCK data will not include drives data any more...all the informations like NC-PLC-HMI- drives backups need to be taken individually Here in 840DSL on the card you will have NC-PLC-HMI-Drives information in this.... Harddisk image backup can be taken bu the real think works from the CF card. When you clear S3 and S4 it is recommanded to load the backups NCK-PLC-Drives and HMI If you want to clear only drive yes you can do it from the HMI screen...there is infromation called FACTORY SETTING... this clears the drive data information... nulizhang Platinum Expert Joined: 10/17/2007 Last visit: 1/14/2026 Posts: 4574 Rating: (416)	Thanks for quick response Ekalavya, today we make new m/c with 840d sl test running, the HMI display is very similar as your show us in the app_note file.But I still need you conform: Q1--Is it really NO sequence for loading back-uped data? such as loading Drive data 1st, then loading PLC data, loading NCK data last, even that may make no sense.but we may need that sometimes. I'k like make everything clear not until my m/c down due to lost data and I cannot recover it in reasonable time--that will make my boss crazy. best regard .

Ekalavya Posts: 2964 Rating: (485)	Hello, I never ever followed any sequence i have loaded the datas(NC-PLC-Drives) in the multiple ways it works. situtation matters it depends upon your machine how does your machine manufacturer has commissioned.... most of the times PLC backup need to be loaded first and then the NC ( eg:Variables are read from the PLC to nc) Regards, Prakash
