Yow Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi Everyone, As far I know there are few ways to parameterize Simocode Pro through profibus in HW Config (Please correct me if Im wrong) 1. Using GSD File (Only ProC is able to make changes) 2. Using Simatic PDM 3. Using STEP7 Object Manager (OM) that is coming with Simocode ES Premium integrated toSTEP7 When download is perform in HW config environment, Preset Simocode parameter will be downloaded into Simocode device when STEP7 Object Manager (OM) is used. What about GSD file and PDM configuration? Will it download into the Simocode device as well when download is perform in HW config environment?

Mr. SIRIUS Bronze-Expert Joined: 5/17/2010 Last visit: 12/19/2025 Posts: 227 Rating: (28)	Hi Yow, let us start in another way: there are two software ways howparameters come to SIMOCODEpro device: a) a direct download from PC to SIMOCODEpro device by system interface, PROFIBUS/PROFINET interfaceor by Routing* function. This is the way using SIMOCODE ES (stand-alone) or SIMATIC PDM. * Routing can be done by SIMATIC PDM or by SIMOCODE ES (stand-alone, but STEP7 project with SIMOCODEproObject manager is required). b) SIMOCODEpro parametersare stored at PLC/DP-Master and come to SIMOCODEpro device by a Bus Restart (e.g. Power off/on, PLC STOP/RUN) This is the way which is possible for SIMOCODEproC by GSD file or for all SIMOCODEpro devices using Object Manager. The parameters are stored at system data blocks of PLC and are download to PLC by STEP7 HWConfig. THIS IS NOT A DOWNLOAD TO SIMOCODE. Maybe you are now asking how to decide between way a) and way b) because in case of direct parameterization a bus restart will overwrite this parameterization used GSD or OM in STEP7. For this there is the parameter "start-up parameter block" in SIMOCODEpro. When this option is active the start-up parameters coming from DP-Master (which means from GSD or OM) will be blocked . The direct parameterization stays active. There are pros and cons on these two ways: for direct parameterization: +there is no PLC STOP/RUN required to change parameters -in case of replacing a defect SIMOCODEpro the parameters must be downloaded (by PC, Memory plug or Initialization module) for parameterization by PLC: - parameter change requires a HWConfig download and a PLC STOP/RUN - number of SIMOCODEpro devices configured by Object Manager is limited because of max. SDB size + simple way to replace a defect SIMOCODEpro, just set Slave address, automatic parameterization by PLC/DP-Master So a quick summary: A download of STEP7 HWConfig (independent of GSD or OM) does NOT download parameters to SIMOCODEpro, just to PLC. But the STOP/RUN of PLC brings a bus restart so the PLC sends the start-up parameterization telegram including the parameters to SIMOCODEpro devices. A download of SIMATIC PDM or SIMOCODE ES (stand-alone) is a direct download to SIMOCODEpro device. Hopefully this is clear now, if not then please let us know. KInd Regards Mr. SIRIUS
