S7-300 Connection via RS485

I Thinking about connection s7-300 314IFM to HMI, this HMI will be my PC, I want to do this via RS485 communication but when I create project in simatic manager and integrate with project in wincc flexible 2008, I don't have option in communication menu to do this, I only have marked "Simatic" other options are inactive. Please tell me that "Simatic" is substitute of all other option or I just can't connect simiatic via RS485, of course I know that is should use the special module to RS485 communication but how can I make to work it together?? Hi there, "RS485" is the specification on how the hardware look like. What you need is to specify the protocol ("language") that will be used. Siemens protocols that use RS485 as link are: PPI MPI Profibus Other popular protocol used by many manufacturers is Modbus RTU. Careful.. If your PC has a serial connection, it is going to be "RS232" and not "RS485".. unless you have a Siemens PG or something special. Possibly you will have to use your MPI programming cable to link to the PLC. Even though I am not an expert on the use of WinCC flexible, I expect you may have a problem with the license too - what version and license do you have? The expert will tell you if it is possible to make a simulation or run time environment with what you have. Good luck. w

Hello germynator, you have marked the CPU connection 314IFM as Profibus DP? are you sure? This CPU (IFM)as faras i know does not have the Profibus DP port onboard you have ONLY MPI Port, on the PC side which adapter you have? also have a look: SIMATIC HMI WinCC flexible 2008 WinCC flexible 2008 Runtime

germynator Posts: 28 Rating: (3)	Hi thank You for Your's answers I use MPI connection, the DP is marked by accident, In my PC computer I have only RS232 port but I can buy something to change RS232 transmision to RS485 standard, Also I can buy other PLC I use 314IFM only for the test. What You think if I buy some modbus communication module can I make project in wincc 2008 flexible open it in some WinCC runtime and control PLC from my PC

What You think if I buy some modbus communication module can I make project in wincc 2008 flexible open it in some WinCC runtime and control PLC from my PC Hello germynator, recapping you want to connect an HMI (PC) with the S7 314 IFM, you've really only a RS 232? you want to communicate via Modbus for strength? if you have a communications processor says the FAQ below: How do you configure a connection between WinCC flexible Runtime (PC/Panel) and a SIMATIC S7-300/S7400 via PROFIBUS/MPI?
