There is currently no simulation option available for S7-1200. 2. You can create your project, and using TIA Portal professional, you can change the plc to s7-300, and then you can simulate. 3. Even though you did not ask, I will say that TIA Portal 10.5 is very buggy and out of date. The current version is TIA Portal V11 SP2 Update 5 with hardware support pack 26. If you purchase a new PLC, you may have a difficult time purchasing the older firmware (2.2 and below) PLC systems. My suggestion would be to get a training kit which would come with the latest released media for the portal, a plc, and an hmi. With that kit, you can simulate pretty well right on your desk.
