LADDER LOGIC !!!

93Mustang Posts: 65 Rating: (0)	Are there examples of using S7-300 processors showing how to program solely in ladder logic. I am so frustrated with the manuals and forums showing nothing but STL SCL or GRAPH examples that do not even convert to ladder. It seems you have to be a computer programmer to use this equipment. I've just read through countless pages on how to use arrays and found nothing but STL SCL examples. I've progrmmed using A/B GE Fanuc Telemechanique and Modicon and S7 programming is by far the most difficult to understand. Things that are considered basic functions in logic you simply cannot do in S7.

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 1/14/2026 Posts: 12480 Rating: (2722)	Hello Mustang; In Siemens S7 PLCs, it is true that all indexed addressing and indirect addressing instances have to be programmed in STL, using pointer and ANY pointer tools. If at first it seems perplexing, STL is a very easy to get used to, with just a little initial reading and (possibly a bit of) work. You will find that as a programming tool it frees you from the limitations of graphic representations (such as Ladder, FDB). It allows loops, array processing, pointers and a lot of other tools to be implemented in a systematic fashion. Again, it takes some getting used to; but if you stick with it you will fing it very powerful. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

Those programming languages could even used together in one program, for example all standard logic in LAD, the sequential logic in S7 GRAPH and the data logic in SCL....
