In our projects, we control and monitor MV softstarters from Allen-Bradley, Benshaw and Aucom over Profibus-DP. We use indifferently any Profibus-DP master (we have different brands of controllers in our different projects). What you need basically is a Profibus-DP slave interface card on the softstarter, a gsd file (object description file for Profibus-DP slave) from the manufacturer that you need to integrate to the Profibus configuration software you use (HWConfig in the case of PCS7) and a manualillustrating the exchage data table between the slave and the master; it should explain what number of words are transfered in and out of the slave, and the content of each word. Once you have all these, open your HWConfig, locate the softstarter in the Profibus slave objects, drag it to the Profibus Master bus, insert the correct number of modules required to match your communication needs, memorize the I/O addresses provided by the configurator as you will access the data through these. Then program some rungs in any SFC or FB to read/write to these I/O addresses. In short, just treat your softstarter as any normal Profibus slave. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

mdedem Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Hi dchartier, 3RW44356BC44 soft starter75 kw 3RW4900 0KC00 communication module I located gsd file inHW and its have 2 byte input and 2 bytes output control bytes. I can use these bytes for control Soft starter. I want to read current information. I think it's not possible with 2 bytes. How can I do ?

dchartier Grandmaster Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 1/14/2026 Posts: 12481 Rating: (2722)	Hello mdedem; I have looked at the Simoreg System manual, and it indicates that the first six bits of the second byte of the Input area are used to indicate the % value of the parametrized maximum current on the drive. I have copied some of their tables in the following attachment (simplified them a bit) so you can see where they are located in the data table and how they are used to calculate the % value. Here is a link to the mentionned manual: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/21772518 Now this is not something I have tried myself before, so try it out and see if it is effective. The same chapter indicates that you can also use SFCs for data-record reading (DPV1 functions) to get the current readings from the drive,. so that could be another alternative.
