I need to prepare a system architechture drawing for8 RTUs (1 main + 7 local) connected via Fiber optic connection. The type of Fiber optik cable is to be recommend by me only. The Main PLC on the other side is connected to DCS over modbus TCP via CP341*.

The sailent feature that the RTU required is as follows:

1. Suitable under desert climate i.e. high ambient temperature and high humidity.
2. Suitable under dusty and corrosive with traces of H2S.
3. Certified for use in electrical hazardous area as specified in area classification drawing.
4. The lightning protection modules for field wiring inputs and outputs shall be fitted.
5. Plugable CPU, memory, power supply & expandable I/Os.
6. The RTU shall as minimum incorporate:
• Report by exception changes in data values,
• Process alarms by exception,
• Alarm Report
• Diagnostic routines.
7. I/O hot swappable.
8. The system shall contain real time clock.
9. Output ckt shall have blown fuse indicator light.
10. I/O signals shall also be isolated from power and gnd ckt and optically isolated from internal logic level devices.
11. Self diagnostics shall be provided that enables the identification and location of system malfunction.
12. RS485 FOM (Fiber optic modem) required with transmission capability upto 40km.
13. The Data received shall be time stamped and this shall be available on the DCS. The RTU shall have the ability to attach each event signal a time lag to enable the occurrence to be recorded with an overall accuracy of 1 second. The event time tag shall be transmitted with the data to Main PLC and DCS.
14. The local RTU be of IP65 and Dissipation of internally generated heat shall be via external heat sinks.
15. Electrical equipment located outdoor shall be provided with protection against solar radiation.
16. System shall be unaffected by radio frequency interference and shall be tested in accordance with the performance requirement.
17. Each RTU has some 20 digital input, 20 digital output, 40 analog input, 10 analog outputs.

Can anyone please guide me throug it. I would be highly grateful.

What can I do when the temperature of the medium is higher than the maximummeasuring temperature allowed according to the technical data?

ANSWER:

1st possibility:
Use of remote seals (with high temperature oil, remote seals can operate at temperatures of up to 400°C).

2nd possibility
Using an impulse line of sufficient length. The measured medium sits in the impulse line, it doesn't flow. It therefore cools off to an ambient temperature relatively fast.


Q2.) How can I use this Sinaut in an electrical hazardou area, do you suggest explosion proof panel.
A2) Yes, I don't believe that there are RTU's without a special casing that fulfill this.

Q3.) If someone ask to have lightning protection modules for I/O what does that mean.
A3) That is a overvoltage protection, if the wiring is coming from outside then this will be usefull. Normaly that is not directly done by the I/O but by trabs on the outside.

Q4.) The client is asking that the Fiber optic modem should comply to ITU v.54 standard. Can you please suggest what he wants?
A4) That is a transmision standard Available ITU transmission standardsV.22 1200 bps, duplex (for the TIM33 / MD3)

V.32bis 4800 bps, duplex
V.32bis 9600 bps, duplex
V.32bis 14400 bps, duplex
V.34bis 19200 bps, duplex

Q5.) Does this system comply to 95% mean time between failure.
A5) Look into the MLFB list on internet Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) - list for SIMATIC products

Q6.) What is its Mean time to repair?
A6) That is depending on the one that is doing the service onthe totalsystem....... (see the document in the Q5 answer)

Q7.) Is there a manual which can help me understand the basics of Sinaut Telemetry System. My experience goes till Failsafe system (both S7300 & S7400), but I am new to this communiation bisnuess.
