I am using TIA Portal 13 and I have a DB containing data (in the byte format).

I want to concatenate this collection of bytes into a single word so that I can display the byte data within a single HMI data field.

Can anyone please advise on how best to do this.

You can concatenate only the string, for that blocks available Go to Instructions>Extended Instructions >String+Char> CONCAT

If it is characters then use "Chrs_To_Strg" Block

you can create a HMI DB with a structure of words or doublewords and then use SFC20 - BLKMOV to copy from byte structure to new structure.

Language (English) can be such a problem. When saying "word", does it reference the data type WORD or does it indicate "word" (STRING) built out of characters (BYTES / CHAR)?

Concatenate refers to "assemble to" in English.  When I (and jacek d) reads "word" we associate it with WORD (data type with 16 bits).. my answer also would be to refer to slicing method to solve the problem. To assemble a 16-bit WORD from two 8-bit BYTES.

In Excel (CONCAT) and programming refers to combining multiple STRING data variables into a single STRING. So.. I think your answer is the right one.. it makes the most sense when reading the sentence again after your answer. garyjm68 is asking us to help him assemble a STRING from individual CHAR.
