STEP 7 AS Library - porting to TIA Portal

smiffy Platinum Expert Joined: 1/17/2007 Last visit: 1/8/2026 Posts: 1561 Rating: (540)	I have a library of my own creation that is made up of STEP 7 FB's, FC's, UDT's, SFC's, SFB's, DB's etc. It was developed in PCS7 V6.0 under STEP 7 V5.3. I want to use these library blocks in a TIA Portal project. Ideally I would just like to convert the library and have it available under TIA Portal. However, I would settle for having to produce another library in TIA Portal and copy the blocks across. How do you go about getting the other libraries ported (e.g. communications libraries etc.) or do I use the TIA Portal versions of these libraries? I have tried to use the migration tool within TIA Portal, but it has no option to select the .s7l and .S7S project files.

0_Einstein Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 7/7/2010 Last visit: 1/16/2026 Posts: 16379 Rating: (2522)	I do not know the exact answer as there may be better tools for the pro version of TIA Portal (I only use the basic version), but... I'll take a stab at it. If the comm function is built into TIA Portal V11 SP2 for your PLC family, you should adapt your library to use them. If the library is standard ladder logic, create a project, maybe call it libraryproject, in your Step 7 environment. Put your library source code into the libraryproject. Migrate the libraryproject over to TIA Portal, noting any discrepancies. Once you get your library ported over to a TIA Portal project, make a library from it. Maybe even put it on a network share for others to use. This process could be quick and painless. However, it's more than likely to be painful and iterative, much like some of our tougher project's sticky points. In the end it will be worth it. I'm currently converting a bunch of string-based ladder logic library code into SCL, so I feel your pain. The string handling in SCL is supposed to be better, and so far, it seems to be easier to read the code. In some cases, it became EASY to understand what the code is doing even without comments. The ladder logic REQUIRED comments to get any appreciation for what it was really doing. Good luck and post your own results. Hopefully others who have gone through this will post their own suggestions.

Parker's module is wrote in .S7S *.S7L files and I couldn't open it in TIA Portal. RafaFerreira Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hello, Migration of libraries from STEP7 to TIA V11 is not possible according to the siemens document attached(page 6). TIA V13 I also couldn't.
