Scorpio31 Posts: 47 Rating: (8)	Sales Engineer's first comissioning ! Life Saver Hey Friendz.... I still remember as it happened just yesterday. It was a rainy day on 31st Dec 2004 and i was travelling to a custmoer on a sales call. I reached in time to project head for discussing about the new projects for Drives and motors alongwith automation. It was shocked for me to understand that 6months back supplied drives ( 06nos) are not working after the 10days of installation and trips during starting before attaining the rated speed. They were running the plant in by-pass mode and was furiuos on our product.... I relaised the situation and instead of talking about new project i asked them to show me the site. I thought twice if i should take the intitative to touch the panels or letthe service engineer come and resolve the issue... but then thought to lets fight with the situation It was late evening when we got the shut down and project managerleft home leaving shift people with me.... It was more than 2 hours now and i wasnot able to resolve the problem of 1st drive.... I remembered my training days in Siemensand also called one of the bestservice colleague. He suggested to selected SLVC mode instead of V/f mode for motor starting.... and majic happened NEW YEAR STARTED and got a message on PA systemfrom control room that drive has started.... Did the similar settings in other 5 drives and within 30mins every thing became normal. Shift engineer took me to a place where new year's celebration was going on. We met with the Project manager there and I introduced my self as a Sales representative. He jumped from his seat after knowing my profession and also full of joy after listening that drives are functioning well..... Later we bagged the new order and ofcourse win the confedence of that customer till today ! Really thanks to comissioning training... My first and last one.

[img]/tf/WW/en/postattachments/download?attachmentId=37977[/img] Create progam with programmer attached to plc, then burn Eprom to test the result. AMAZINGAHMED Posts: 719 Rating: (88)	Yeah! burning and erasing Eproms is a complete waste of time (at least I think so because I had to do it recently for old systems after I got used to download on the MMC many times per hour) It really got to my nurves when I had to wait about 30 min for the UV to erase the Eprom

You saved the day by doing so, but I know sales engineers who depend only on their interaction with people and make good relations with them without technical information. And for the technical part, he takes a technical engineer with him.

Ste39 Posts: 4620 Rating: (710)	Hello friends, My first truly PLC fact alone was in 1998 with an S7 315-2DP and ET 200B several slaves who ran (still works today) a printing press for the metal decorating. I do not know if any of you have ever seen the kind of (PLC), which was first installed on this machine for printing, called SIMATIC N. I think this is the date of the 70's, it was not a real PLC was only hardware but had a lot ofcards to do many things, had power supply, filter input step, NOR step N3, NOR step N1, diode adapter, short time step, bistable sweep step, and power step that if I remember correctly2 Amp . Was necessary to mount all in a rack and then wire it all with the wires behind this rack. I hope someone else if you remember otherwise I'm too old.

joeystokes Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	My first time was with a Logo back in 2000. I work for a company that made hybrid and all electric heavy vehicles (buses, delivery trucks, shuttle buses). The vehicles had 24vdc controls and 600vdc drives on twin motors that drove the wheels. The Logo was for the logic and interlocks that operated each vehicle.

desmul24 Posts: 378 Rating: (73)	Hi, My First PLC programm was in 2009 at that time I don't have any PLC experiance except a few hours of tutorial at university (Mitsubushi LOGO if I remembered correctly). My first project (but not full programming) was S7-314 for extrusion machine, the PLC has two 8X12bit AI and has 5 free (spare) channels for reading temperature sensor values, the problem was temperature reading for two zones was "####" on HMI because of AI channels are failed. I didn't know that S7-314 is a PLC and I have started to search on Google "CPU-314 for extrusion machine" .......... after one and half month I upload the program and I have changed the AI adress to the spare channels and finally I get paid $250 USD! ....... That was my first programm and till now I have done more than 15 big projects and >70 small projects. Thanks,

Vijay Silver Member Joined: 3/17/2013 Last visit: 4/28/2025 Posts: 481 Rating: (43)	I started working with PLCs in early 90's. and it was with 1980's designed THRISSEL SCOTT MASSON as a maintenance user for a sheet cutter. It was total surprise for me how the stack counting 500 sheets,conveying and packing. We have neither computer nor SW to install except one large documner in STL like format. My boss made my life tough asking me to develop a LAD diagram for that. Then started the struggle, but ended up with nice understanding of logic. Within a year I worked with SLC500 and whenever PLC generates major fault (MJ in SLC) we used to connect laptop and made reset as no other way to reset major fault and feeling great. That was not the age of one click search links nor forums. This generation people are very lucky to have all facilities at their desk. As time passed gained experience in S5, S7, Modicon, Control logix. Later on started working withSIEMENS PLCsS5,S7 and LOGO drives. As Vithani pointed out drives experience is also equally challenging.One of the motors failed for a conveyor system and we don't have spare and CEO visit was on the next day. One of the motors available as spare had different specs. I used one of the spare MIDIMASTER drives and commissioned for the motor. It was never starting and tripping. One of the default settings (I remeber torque boost)was crazy and once I made less than default value, motor could run and lots of celebsI. As an end user never commissioned PLC except some changes, but for drives never called supplier to commission due to project delays etc.Even today I personally having strong bias on ROBICON large drives MV commissioning. I completed around52 nos for various applications. Unfortunately in Forum ROBICON conference is not that much active to share all these experiences Thanks to you for the great idea in starting the thread. Regards, Vijay
