Creation of GSD file for LED panel ?

zdenek82 Posts: 14 Rating: (0)	Hello, I have a problem with LED panel. We have a LED panel and the producer has no support for PROFIBUS with GSD file. LED panel is comunicating with PC on RS232. They only use RS485 where is for RS232 long trace with RS232/RS485 transducer. Is some possibility to make my own GSD file and comunicate on PROFIBUS with PLC. Producer details format of the data packet. Is it possible ?

Anchobi Posts: 139 Rating: (25)	Hi EDR is correct in that you cannot talk profibus directly to the device. You see a GSD file is purely the file a profibus master configuration tool uses to configure its definition of a profibus slave. This way the master knows who and what it is talking to. But since your LED panel is not a profibus slave and profibus isa protocol (or you could say a communication language not a physical medium like rs232 or 485 although it uses rs485 with its own rules for comliance) yourLED panelwould never talk. You need to do as edr says and look into a serial interface module. The cheapest are the ET200s modules but these have limitations as far as the size of the profibus data exchange cycle. but thses shold be perfecly suited to your application. You will need to determine the serial protocol the LED panel uses. and then hard code the commnuications handling in the PLC. you may even need to create your own serial message frames. Hopefully the LED panel supports a protocol like modbus RTU in which siemens has modules and SFB for which look after the protocol side and you just need to feed it IO info. I hope this clears things up

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, they are all right... RS485 is not PROFIBUS, it is just the interface that is also used by PROFIBUS. If you want to use PROFIBUS you have to follow the Protocol and if you just convert RS232 to RS 485 this is not sufficient. You may have different choices to solve this... some ideas would be: ET200S with 1Si interface ET200M with CP 340 / CP 341 PROFIBUS / RS232 Link just to mention a view. Best regards J_Bell
