ranr_mids Posts: 289 Rating: (19)	Hi. I'm trying to install WinCC on a new XP machine. I've installed all the software required by the WinCC Installation program, but it refuses to recognise SQL 2000 (WinCC version) even though the program installed successfully and is running in the systray. Anyone know what might be wrong? Should I stop SQL for the installation?

ranr_mids Posts: 289 Rating: (19)	I only used the CD's supplied in the WinCC package (apart from Microsoft Message Queueing). I installed SQL from the CD in the WinCCjewel case.

ranr_mids Posts: 289 Rating: (19)	The OS is XP Professional 2002 Service Pack 2 SQL service only listed the Server as selectable, not theactual machine. WinCC Install program went through the list of required installed software at the start, and stated that SQL 2000 (instanz WinCC) was not installed. My colleague in the office is currently in the process of uninstalling and re-installing SQL from the WinCC CD.

Salma Posts: 1398 Rating: (151)	There are two installations that can be done from the SQLServer CD. One installs the WinCC instance and the other installs the bog standard install. The second is no good for WinCC. To determine what you have you need to open the SQL Service Manager (you can do this by double-clicking on the icon in the system tray) and see what if the actual name of your SQL Server. This is listed in the drop down box at the top of the window. I think possibly you have installed a standard installation, although I may be wrong. Hopefully the re-install will resolve the problem.

When I try to open the Server-based project, WinCC tells me that the configured Server is not available, even though I had to navigate down the network paths to open the project on the Server's hard drive. The PC I am trying to set up is already in the list of computers for the WinCC project, as is the User Name and password I am using. EDIT - I can't seem to find any TCP/IP interfaces when I open the PG-PC Interface program. Would this give me problems trying to open projects on the server?

Salma Posts: 1398 Rating: (151)	Hi ranr_mids Client / Server is supposed to work assuming you have followed all the steps in the manual (add client computer name to computer list, create user with access level 1000, create server data package). However I have found that the networking has to be set just right too for it all to work correctly. I have posted several times on the things to look out for, just do a search on this forum for the full list. However in brief: · Check the Simatic Shell folder is displaying correctly ·Check you can ping the server on both computer and ip address · Make sure the Windows users have passwords assigned · Try deleting and recreating the server data package If none of this helps then let us know and we can take it further. My Colleague and I have been digging through the settings on the Server and Client, and have traced the problems to a typing error in the network settings on the Client (the DNS address and default gateway address had been swapped over [:blush:]). It all seems to be working now.
