Communication: DP/DP Coupler <-> WinCC Flexible RT

Autech Posts: 28 Rating: (2)	Hello, My configuration is PLC S7-300 <---> DP/DP Coupler <----> PC with CP 5611 and WinCC Flexible RT 2005. The PC station has only read functions. As the DP/DP Coupler works only in DP Slave mode it should be configured so on both sides. How do I make the configuration and connection on the PC side? In Step 7 - NetPro when I try to configure the CP5611 as a DP master with WinCC Flexible as assigned application I cannot add any inputs or outputs to the DP/DP Coupler. As assigned application I can use only "Application" or "OPC Server". If I choose Application I cannot connect the DP/DP Coupler to the PC side subnet in NetPro. Is the OPC Server the only way of communication between DP/DP Coupler and WinCC Flexible RT? Thanks in advance.

I wonder because usually the WinCC flexible accesses the CPU directly on S7 Connection... therefore I wonder myself what do you need the DP / DP Coupler for? Would you explain that please. In my mind the only way to get this in my opinion strange configuration to run would be to use an OPC Server on the PC and run the CP 5611 as DP Master on it. Than the WinCC flexible OPC Client can access the Server to collect theData, if WinCC flexible allows that... but as said this isa really strange configuration if you are able to access the PLC over PROFIBUS itself. I my self see this configuration as strange but the only reason to use DP/DP Coupler is to optically isolate the PLC controller from the PC (CP5611), I looked thoroughly for RS485 Connectors comprising optical isolator but I think siemens don't produce these... Or is there another solution for this task?

Here is a link to the manual. http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/1171858 In chapter 1, page 1-1, you have a picture explaining how you could use it. Look at the attachment. J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Autech, well if you want to use a optical isolation you should use OLM there you have absolute isolation. As an alternative you can also use a RS 485 Repeater, there the isolation between the two networks is up to 500V. Best regards J_Bell
