If you have the license key on your  disk and the documentation for the product you have (see the screenshot below), then yes you can install it. If you have an empty license disk and the documentation you can even have the license regenerated, through a Support Request (see the link at the top of this page).

What you cannot do is purchase a new version of the licenses.

And once you have installed the product you can only use the licensed product: you must be sure that the hardware you will use is supported by that version of software, and that the functionalities you want to program are included in the software.So you are limited by the version and date of production of the hardware.

For example: if you wanted to setup a Profibus network on your CPU with a version of Step 7 v 5.0, then you would need another license for NCM manager. Profibus configuration was integrated into Step 7 on a later version
