Hi, What are the serial communication possibilities with s7-400 hardware (PCS 7 platform) with external devices ? The device (IRCON Maxline 2 Thermal Imager) is claimed to provide a serial RS 485 output through ASCII protocol. Do I need to provide any hardware in S7 (e.g CP 340 /341) for communication ? Does it require additional programming for the communication to take place ?? Does Siemens have any manual for this kind of communication options ? Attachment050915 Rev I p.pdf (426 Downloads) |

Hi DJB, Yes you need some additional hardware to communicate over a Serial Protocol. This protocol needs to be programmed too. For the S7-400 you will need to use the CP440/CP441-1/CP441-2.
