Optical profibus network

How often optical profibus network is used and what additionaly equipment I need to acomplish this? Thank you very much

It's widely spreead also due to the fact that longer distance are possible with Glass Fiber. But for your application it could also be intersting to have a look at PCF, Plastic Fiber,. You could use here the OLM/P11 twice. This device converts the electric cable to Optic cable. 2 x OLM/P11: 6GK1503-2CA00 (1 Fiber Port and 1 RS485 Port) 1 x Profibus PCF Cable: 6XV1821-1BT10 (100 meterCable with 2 x BFOCConnector) Then you have all the equipment you need. With these device you could reach up to 400 meter with PCF cable.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Jasner, as INS mentioned, the optical connection on PROFIBUS is very common. I have been on many sites where this has been used even on long distances, like 12 to 15 km. In your case the PCF cable would perfectly fit, together with OLM P this works quite good and you do not have to worry about equipotential bonding at all. I hope we could help. I want to use fiber optics because I'm afraid of el.mag. interference. I'm not sure that standard profibus cable (copper) will do well, so I don't want to risk. J_Bell, I'm not sure what do you mean under equipotential bonding? Do you mean that all metal parts (such as cable shields and similar) but be on same potenial to avoid ground loop?
