I need 3 serial interfaces on a CPU224XP

yesid.hernandez Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Hi all, I have an application where I need 3 serial interfaces in the CPU224XP. This CPU has 2 built in serial RS485 ports, that I will use like this: one for a serial printer using a RS232/485 converter, and the other one fot connecting to a TD200C panel. But in muy application I have to connect to a computer to save the process data too. I haven't found a way to connect another expansion module to the S7-200 having a RS232 or RS485 interface. In the better case the interface should be RS232. I appreciatte the help you can give me.

You should consider of using profibus or ethernet to connect to your PC. Keep in mind that serial interface of CPU200 family is not configurable as RS232. Good luck.

I will use a RS232/485 converter to connect to the printer. I just thought in another option. Can I connect TD200C using a Profibus Slave module? Thanks for all your comments.

Maybe you can buy for example CPU222 and connect it with CPU224XP and excange data via ethernet module. So you could use port on CPU222. This solution is very expensive I think and the better way I think is to use ethernet or profibus to exchange data with PC. There is examples on the net how to get data from CPU2xx series via ethernet. Look for PC Access.

GerardAmmerlaan Posts: 60 Rating: (1)	Hi yesid, I suggest using an EM277 or CP 243-1 for the connection to the computer. You can either add a CP5611 into the computer and use PC Access or Simatic NET to communicate via OPC, or in case of the CP 243-1 you simply use the TCP/IP on board interface of the PC to communicate with the S7-200 (via softnet S7 lean or S7-200 PC Access). Helmut_13 Posts: 2930 Rating: (432)	Hi, sorry for the delay. You can use PC-Access (OPC-Server) running on your PC and the TD200 on the same Port of the PLC. Use a standard Profbus connector with PG-Interface. Connect the other side of the Profibus cable to the TD and power the TD sepereate with 24V DC. On the PG interface of the Profibus connector you can now connect your PPI-cable (means your PC). Sett the properties of the PC/PPI cabel to Multimaster mode and change the DIP5 of the RS232-PC-PPI cable to ON (not necessary at the USB PC-PPI cable) You do not need an additional Interface if the max. baude rate is acceptable.
