CP1613 Redundancy for Non-H Systems

deba Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi, I got a problem in configuring redundancy connection with 2 CP1613s in an HMI Server. Attached is the Automation Configuration. Please suggest me whether the Redundancy of CP1613 can be configured in a non - H System or a mixed system. Please help me out if there is any solution. H-H Platinum Member Joined: 7/2/2008 Last visit: 12/21/2025 Posts: 929 Rating: (309)	I've seen your configuration and you do have S7-400 H. I would consider it MAIN PLC. So you have S7-400H and you will use redundant communication. It MUST work even if your have some other PLCs. If we are talking about a system that doesn't have S7-400 H and you would like to establish redundant connection with 2 CP1613. I think it aslo should work but isn't strange that you wish to achieve more availability in netwrok without achieving it in PLC level?!

deba Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi H-H, As you have seen that 2 nos. CP443-1 in each of the Non-H PLCs creates a redundant connection in hardware. Now what I want to know is that, is there any procedure to create a fault tolerant switching between the CP1613s in the server, so that the data-acquisition from the 414-2 is not affected in case of fault in one of the two links, as it is in the case of 414-4H PLC. I hope u have understood that the problem is only with the Non-H systems and majority of the PLCs in my network is 414-2. For more clarification I want to say that the configuration is designed for a 4-Strand Continuous Casting Plant and the 414-4H PLC is the Common PLC and the 414-2 PLCs are the Strand PLCs. So if the configuration is possible,it will be helpful if usend me the procedure to do it. Thanks in advance..

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear deba, I am sorry for my late reply but I think the issue you mentioned is of general intresst so I will try to offer you some ideas. The issue with the single CPU PLCs is that you are not able to configure a H Connection, as you already explained. So what you have to do is to configure two fully configured S7-Connections. To ensure that both Links are active you have two ways. First you may use the System information about the S7 Connection Status... but this may take to long to notice if the connection is still active. The Timeout for S7 Connections in an non redundant Connection may take too long. Secondly you may use a so called Live-Bit. This is a Value in the CPU which is cyclically changed. If you read this value in the PC you should see the change between two readings and if the value does not change you even notice that the CPU is no longer in run mode. If the Value can not be read anymore the Connection is down. I personally think the last way is the most prommissing one. Best regards J_Bell
