Hello everybody,

Can someone explain to me what is future of PCS 7? I saw that lastes release (PCS 7, SP2) was two months ago (february 2020).  I can’f find any info about future planning? PCS7 will be integrate in TIA Portal or?

One more question, what is with CFC in TIA portal? Is there any planning from Siemens to integrated it in TIA?

Has anyone outside the Siemens organisation been able to predict the evolution of their automation software?

All we can tell you (from the perspective of end-users, which the great majority of Forum members are) is what we have now:

- Siemens is proposing regular updates and upgrades to PCS 7, which means they are investing in the platform and probably will continue to do so for some time. And the support for S7-400 PLCs, on which PCS 7 is based, is not in question until at least 2030. Someday they might even integrate S7-1500 in PCS 7, but again, who can say?

- In any case, if they were to stop development on PCS 7 tomorrow, they would still support it for at least 10 to 15 years, if the experience with the S5 family is taken as a basis.

- For the moment at least, TIA Portal and the S7-1200 and S7-1500 PLCs do not support CFC programming. If you look at my first paragraph, we cannot assure you that in an eventual v2x of TIA Portal, in about 5 years, that CFC will not be introduced in TIA Portal as the latest and greatest way to program...
