This is a sensor provided by the Siemens Building Technologies division, and it is a very good product, by all recogning. I think that if you are looking for viewing at suchlarge distances, you need to think in terms of Industrial LED Displays (Google the string). They will give you good viewing and are generally robust and reliable. We have worked with these manufacturers before with good satisfaction: http://www.alphaleddisplays.com/ They provide a serial link (you have to store the strings in a DB, and you can embed variables in the string) or if you prefer a Ethernet connection.
