To setup a device in controller, it is important to know properties of a device.

When you integrate GSD files in controller, controller gets the device parameters and characteristics. It enables you to configure devices as per requirement.

in my case PROFIBUS knows of CP342-5 but it has no idea of DGU.

SIMATIC S7-300 → CP342-5 V5.7 → [PROFIBUS Master-ModBus - RTU Slave] → DGU

DGU Digital Governor Unit - part of K-Chief OS 500 system.

I send Kongsberg guys a request to give me gsd file for DGU but there is no reply yet.

No. You'll need to do more next things because of use CP342-5 so in this case you'll need add comm blocks also and prepare code. Looks like you're wrong again.

DGU???? You have Gateway here as first communication device you need prepare data exchange. It's time to learn and understand system of functionality. Again as previously sugested, your Gateway need to be configured, documentation is mandatory. Import GSD to S7-300 is then required and cfg as documentation to Gateway describes. This is protocol converter (gateway) so at one side you have PB DP and on another Modbus RTU. In this case you need cfg proper PB DP data that Gateway knows for what you're asking as Modbus RTU system.

??????? Again, looks like still missunderstand Gateway functionality and how PB DP works. Simple question to be in right idea, what is your first device after CP342-5 with PB network? DGU?  Again and simply, you need set correct data on input of Gateway and gateway then do rest of job as transformation of one protocol to another. What you want to do with DGU that this isn't PB capable? It is Modbus RTU protocol defined, correct?

Is so hard to say thank you or you take it every time as simply not required to say? We are here for help, no sallary so we all here with contributions expect maybe this kind of effort from other side...

You are using an Anybus X-Gateway Profibus master to Modbus RTU slave, correct?

So, on the S7-300 side, you must configure the CP 342-5 as a Profibus-DP slave. The screenshot below shows how you would configure this on the nybus Nettool configuration software, The Anybus gateway actig as master, the CP 342-5 acting as slave.

Look at the Notes on linking a CP 342-5 as a slave to a S7-300 system, and notice the requuirement for functions DP_Send and DP_Recv when you are working with a CP 342-5:

Am=nd here is the link to all required documentation on the Anybus X-Gateway Profibus Master to Modbus slave. The manual on Profibus-DP master has been examined. You will have to configure the Modbus slave side based on the documentation you have on your Modbus aster system in your project. Th DGU must act as a Modbus master in this case.

not easy task and no one here can say it could be easy to do. Your situation is strange especially about your info that Simatic Step7 SW is missing or not used. Without this you can't solve your prj probably. We can simply give you sugestions, as I did and Daniel also put the best update sugestion here. Without to know exactly situation at your side, this is impossible to give exact correct advice. The first important thing is to know what device plays what role at network. Who is Master (ask for data), Slave (answer with data to requests) and also how that Gateway is configured, also what is functionality as is type of Gateway, simply communication type of side on Gateway. What is still unknown to me is GDU functionality, what is this device? PLC or some device with specific functionalty? From all what I've read from X Forum, your GDU need work as Master with Modbus RTU protocol but tell us this for sure about GDU. If your actual situation about especially GDU functionality (what it need to do) maybe other solution can be offered, who knows. Start read carefully, calm with also your team all posts here and at X-Gateway Forum, try built correct look at situation, get knowledge. No nerves here, all is about correct cfg but knowledge is expected, no other way. No problem with next support here, go ahead...

This is very important info from Gateway Support Team because that sets my sugestions as not correct, very simple to understand. Here you see that Gateway functionality is different as I expected. Simply as I said, cfg of Gateway, its functionality is important to know to do next steps. Shame you didn't post your X-G Forum before but now its probably more clear.

And sry, just one next question, what is exactly your actual S7-300 CPU type, order number? Maybe it is DP capable and you can omit CP342-5 but your exact info is required here to give next sugestions.

I've read again some of your posts inside X Forum and this is what points to my previous sugestions also, look at what X Team support said:

However, I wonder why you are using a Profibus Master to communicate with an S7 PLC? Normally, one would use an Anybus Profibus Slave and configure the Profibus network using Siemens STEP7 (or TIA Portal) when using a Siemens PLC. Are you sure you are using the correct device?

This is simply what I've expected as functionality. Here is also clear that X team started to think that your decision use Gateway as your actual type can be wrong depended to your actual and expected functionality of control at your actual cfg, S7-300 PLC and DGU. Again pls, your actual HWs, what is expected to achieve with your control? What device need collet data from what devices? DGU, what functionality has this device? All still points to my previous sugestions here.

Simply, from your first post I expected quickly my experience about functionality from your first description. Simply S7-300 need collect some data from DGU (specify clear what is this device) what is Modbus RTU capable (who knows, specify pls) and use that data to its control of process. Simply we can only guess what are your devices, what they do and what they need to do with expected DGU device. Specify pls what that DGU is, this is important. Is your PLC S7-300 control some process and need some DGU data or DGU is some kind of control system that need PLC S7-300 data for its internal use?
