The code below should give you some ideas. Some points of note about the code. i) In the form presented here it can only handle a maximum DB size of 8192 bytes. I can provide a solution that gets round this limit, but it nakes the code a bit harder to understand. If you want this option then tell me. ii) The BLKMOV function will only copy as many data bytes as the destination variable will hold, REGARDLESS of how many bytes are specified at the COPY_LEN input. So in this example as we are copying to an integer, only 2 bytes will be copied. I found the "Type" description in the Hans Berger book, under Indirect Adressing ANY pointers chapter. It make sense now. But there is one last thing about byte address.LSB, MSB. So address 0 = byte 0, address 8 = byte 1. That is the reason for the 8 as BLKMOV can only work with byte alligned addresses. So to give you a 0-65535 address range with byte addressing you will need 16-bits, but as it is bitwise addressing you actually need a 19-bit address (65536 8 = 524280 = 2^19 = 19 bits). If you look at Mr Berger's book page 412, you will see that the address pointer actually consists of 19 bits spread over 3 bytes (with 5 bits unused). So have split this down into a low address word and a high address byte. The low address (ByteAddressLSB) handles the address range of 0-2^14-1 = 0 - 16383 The high address (ByteAddressMSB) handles the address range of 2^14 - 2^16 = 16384 - 65535. So I have been a bit lazy as I have not bothered with the highest 3 bits of the address (the MSB) as it is very rare that you need to access addresses over this number (16383) in a DB. The foolproof way would be to bit shift your byte address left by 3 (ensuring that the vacated bit positions are zero filled) and then split the resultant address into a word and and a byte thus:- Address : DWORD; Address := MyAddress * 8; ByteAddressMSB := Address AND 16#0700; // Only take bottom 3 bits of 3rd byte (bits 16-18) ByteAddressLSB := Address AND 16#FFF8; // Only take bits 3-15 (stripping out the bit address)

Actually I tried it but it does not compile as: pAnySRC.ByteAddressMSB := (Address AND 16#0700); // Only take bottom 3 bits of 3rd byte (bits 16-18) That is a byte. but the variable DWORD pAnySRC.ByteAddressLSB := (Address AND 16#FFF8); // Only take bits 3-15 (stripping out the bit address) That is a WORD. but the variable DWORD Is there any way to fix this issue? Maybe the original version will do for me as I only 64 words in the DB. I am still not too sure about how is it working if the bit addresses hold actually 3 bits of the byte address. I hope I did not ask anything really silly. Cheers

I was also confused about the addressing difference between that from the table and what smiffy uses, but it was simple after I've read this: smiffy "So to give you a 0-65535 address range with byte addressing you will need 16-bits, but as it is bitwise addressing you actually need a 19-bit address (65536 * 8 = 524280 = 2^19 = 19 bits). ...... The low address (ByteAddressLSB) handles the address range of 0-2^14-1 = 0 - 16383 The high address (ByteAddressMSB) handles the address range of 2^14 - 2^16 = 16384 - 65535." He uses bitwise addressing in his function, not the form from the picture. (byte address.bit address) E.g. if you want to point to the 33rd bit in a DB you just write 32 into ByteAddressLSB, do not have to construct an address like 4.0 (byte 4 bit 0 which is the 33rd bit) If you look at the binary format, both are the same: 32 decimal in binary is 100000 while 4.0 byte address 4 decimal is 100 while bit 0 is 000 = 100000 So if you want to work with words, and you want to point e.g. to the 3rd word in your local, you should write into thepAnyDST.ByteAddressLSB 2x16 = 32 I hope I understood it well. smiffy Platinum Expert Joined: 1/17/2007 Last visit: 7/10/2025 Posts: 1561 Rating: (540)	Maybe you will need to convert the DWORD result to the correct type before the assignment. pAnySRC.ByteAddressMSB := DWORD_TO_BYTE(Address AND DW#16#0700); pAnySRC.ByteAddressLSB := DWORD_TO_WORD(Address AND DW16#FFF8); >I am still not too sure about how is it working if the bit addresses >hold actually 3 bits of the byte address. The bit address is not holding 3 bits of the bytre address, they have been bit shifted left by 3 bits curtiousy of the 8 calculation leaving the bit address as 0. Each 2 = 1 bit shift towards the high end of the word. So 3 bit shifts would be 2 * 2 * 2 = 8. But as the LSB only holds a word, you will effectively lose the top 3 bits off the top of this word. So the bits that are shifted out the top of the LSB really ought to go into the MSB to give you the full range of addressing. As it is now, you will lose the top 3 bits and therefore reduce your address range as already explained. But as you are not using large addresses, we can simply ignore the top 3 bits and keep the MSB as 0. Note to kahl: The bit address has to be 0 in this case as he is using BLKMOV, which will fail if the address is not byte alligned (i.e. bit address is 0).

You will need to point these at an ANY pointer types (pSRC and pDST) as per the code in post #2. Then you need to use the BLKMOV SFB to perform the move. The code you have shown doesn't actually do anything, it only sets up the ANY pointers ready for the copy. The BLKMOV SFB actually performs the copy:- RetVal := BLKMOV(SRCBLK:=pSRC, DSTBLK:=pDST);

uvcontrols Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	The beauty of SCL is that offers you, like the saying says "1000 ways to skin a cat" here is a simple example,oboiusly the use of SFC20 is the proper way to do it. but when I did not know how to parametrize it in SCL I always used as follows attached is the SCL just ready to import into your project sources. give it a test, I Just wrote it but,in this computer I do not have a SIMULATOR installed, so did not thest functionality,but the compilation did not produce any error, so it will work.
