Hello, expert. I am an electronics engineer and I service CNC machines, including Sinumerik 840D. This is the Sinumerik line we are going to talk about. For a number of reasons, I wanted to convert the incremental measurement system for one axis to absolute without changing the sensor (no need to reach the reference point after turning on the machine). I assumed that after reconfiguring the incremental system to absolute, everything would work properly, provided that this axis would not be mechanically shifted after turning off the power. And so it turned out, everything works fine. The machine on which this happened, NCU version 07.02.12, HMI 06.04.23.02. On another machine (NCU version 06.05.33, HMI 06.23.02) everything turned out differently. After a test reset of the NCK, the system displayed the correct axis position, but if I moved the axis and turned off the power and restarted the machine, the "new" measuring system displayed the value set in MD34100 REFP_SET_POS (set the actual axis position during the first setup).

I copied it from the motor nameplate of this axis. I would like to clarify that there are two motors on this axis. Master and slave. And also that the master motor has two measurement systems. It was this one (LB382C) that I reconfigured into absolute. (The machine is a milling boring machine, and after an emergency shutdown, sometimes it is not possible to correctly bring the axes to the reference point in order to continue working later).

Good day. In principle, you are right, but only partly. I have already done this "trick" with the incremental measurement system. I suppose that when I replace the incremental measurement system with an absolute one, then when the machine power is turned off or the NCK is reset, the system writes the current value of the axis position to "memory" (I don't know where!) and displays it when turned on. There is a condition: when the power is off, the axis should not move mechanically. Otherwise, the actual position and the position before the power is turned off will differ. This works, but for some reason not always. I wanted to hear the answer to this question from YOU. Thank you.

I couldn't insert the image into the pager. I'm sending the links. When setting it up, I changed it to "0". Then I restored it to the previous value. Everything worked fine after the reconfiguration until the power was disconnected from the machine. This happened a few days later. And I'm also sending the instructions I used to do this.
