I had never even heard of this before I turned up here on site but the problem is that, although we have gone through the configuration wizard as per the knowledgebase document, we are still experiencing motor overload fault with the inverter. Can anyone give me any pointers on how best to configure the drives for this option please? Kind Regards, Ian

Do you have a part number of the drive? Ideally a parameter list ... if possible Number of motors in parallel? Total power rating of motors (Maybe a photo of the motor plate and wiring) Has the Imax been set to the sum of all motor currents? Wiring configuration inside the motor terminal box? Are the motors identical - very important Length of motor cables - approx should be fine Are there any output components in the motor cable line i.e. output choke, sine wave filter etc? Actual fault code, and any warnings spotted before trip occurs. Think that's it for now Regards, Graeme

Member Joined: 6/20/2017 Last visit: 9/8/2025 Posts: 486 Rating: (41)	this configuration work only in these conditions: 1: The drive must be configured in U/f mode, without any voltage compensatoins. Only in linear U/f mode. 2: The motor must be connected id delta mode (lower voltage) 3: The U/f curve must be configured with the maximum frequencies increased 1.73 times from the motor nominale frequecy: 50 Hz * 1,73 = 87 Hz more or less. 4: the drive maximum current must be set with the motor delta connection current. With this configuration you can run the motor from 20 Hz to 100 Hz, more or less, with constant torque.

Whilst more answers arrive on this topic, I can add the following: 3 Phase asynchronous induction motors are designed to operate at around 50 to 60 Hz. As higher frequencies are applied, in order to obtain greater motor speed, the impedance of the coils increases, as impedance is proportional to frequency. As the supply Voltage is normally fixed at around 400Volts, this impedance increase reduces the torque generating current, to a point where the motor will stall, through 'Field Weakening'. To overcome this the motor is connected in Delta, which is suitable for a 230Volt supply, and the inverter operating from a 400Volt, 3 phase supply. This surplus Voltage can now be used to overcome the increase in impedance, operating the motor to 87Hz before it goes into 'field weakening', The Delta connected motor must now be capable of delivering the required torque at the reduced supply Voltage. Also the inverter drive must be able to supply the increased current to maintain the Torque. 87Hz is derived from the Voltage to Frequency slope / ratio, 230V/50Hz, & 400/87Hz. Tractor

When using 87hz mode, the inverter needs to be 2 sizes pigger than the motors combined kW are, for it to produce enough amperes to run them.
