WinCC Flexible 2008 SP1-> SP2 in Virtual PC / XP-SP3 upgrade path

Most Siemens software won't install on the 64-bit OS, some won't install on windows 7 because it needs an OS higher than XP-SP2 or Vista.... DOH! SO, I created a virtual PC/XP Mode and up to WinCC Flexible SP1, everything installed and actually runs pretty well in XP Mode (32-bit)within Win7. Tried to install SP2 of WinCC Flexible 2008 but it won't allow it to be installed from a 'remote desktop' connection. I'm using an MP177 with a S7-1200 PLC and would like to get the latest SP installed. SP2 is supposed to work on Win7, but I cannot install SP2 without having the base system installed first. Base system will not install on Win7. Suggestions? Will SP1 deploy the HMI system and work fine with S7-1200 PLC?

Sandman Platinum Member Joined: 4/29/2010 Last visit: 1/20/2025 Posts: 1557 Rating: (161)	Hello, in this case you need a installation DVD flexible 2008 inlc. SP2. I advice you to talk to your local sales partner of Siemens to get such a DVD. This is the only solution. best regards.

If it's XP mode world, it will still prevent installation from "remote desktop" connection. In Win7, will it work with 64-bit OS? Everything I read in this forum seems to indicate 64-bit is not going to work, and in XP mode VM session, I can't install SP2 if it does the remote desktop check. Thanks for the suggestion. The software was purchased and received last month and didn't include SP2. It came with base software and SP1 on another disk.

How do I get the SP2 install package to ignore the fact I'm running it as a virtual PC? I meet the other specifications noted in the supported software OS systems.

0_Einstein Diamond Member Joined: 7/7/2010 Last visit: 9/2/2025 Posts: 16056 Rating: (2512)	Ok, searched online, and to get the windows installer to not see the virtual PC session, here's what you have to do... ---all of this is within the virtual PC in XP Mode--- 1. Copy the contents of the CD to theVirtual PC's C: drive. Make a folder, maybe c:\CD\ , and copy everything from the install disk to that new folder. 2. Make the Virtual PC a 'window' rather than full screen. 3. In the window bar, select "Tools", and disable integration features. 4. Double-click the setup file in c:\CD\ and follow prompts. Installation went smoothly... Upon completion, delete the folder you created, enable integration features, and go back to full screen mode if you prefer full screen. Sweet. Figured someone would want this answer.

BenMue Posts: 1 Rating: (1)	In case this might be a bit old but you dont have to disable the integration features. Copy CD/DVD contents to virtual disk and executing the SP is enough. best regards
