pls think that if S7-200 instructions have little range, only simple logic not that Freeport communication, PID and other special functions depends to S7-200 HW, it could be possible. S7-1200 and other stations (S7-300/400) using same basic logic functions, but due that S7-200 communication instructions it isn't possible. Look at TIA portal, it joined some communication instruction (mean f.ex. open communication) with S7-1200 and S7-300/400 system. Note that old firmw. S7-200 (S7-215 DP f.ex.) isn't compatible in some instructions between same models with lower CPUs versions. I think that this is not possible, sometimes not possible covert new TIA versions between each other.

Software conversation is not recommended form MicroWin to TIA-Portal, because the S7-1200 supports much more functions as the S7-200 was supporting.
E.G. FBs, multiple DBs, Multiinstances,  new kind of instructions, new Library…… Using the STEP 7 V11 S7-200 Converter makes no sense!

Even if the tool would be accessible any more:
- It is only working for TIA V11 which is not recommended to use any more
- after converting there is a lot of work reworking the code
- at the end there is still an old fashion program

Better is to generate a new program from scratch for the new platform. This helps to learn working with TIA Portal.
Main points for MicroWin users are learning how to use FBs as multiinstance call. SCL language.... If a MicroWin user understand handling FBs as Multiinstance, he will never like to use S7-200 again

(smile) To start a argument and long conversation string is not my intention, but it would be fair to say my personal view differs somewhat.

The conversion program do have a place. It is very helpful for converting pure logic networks and build up a logics structure. It would have been less of an issue it TIA were easier to work with on keyboard commands.

Yes it is work to get the variables extracted from DB1 to relevant M-bits / DB / FB variables. It is too bad Siemens did not give more attention to that aspect in the convert program.

Converting from TIA11 to TIA13 is not that big an issue for us. We keep TIA11 installed also for older machines in any case.

I love working with the S7-300 style program structure but for me the S7-200 would still have a place. It has much to do with how easy it is to work with / code in Microwin. Then there is the ability of the S7-200 to generate a simple variable frequency pulse (no ramping) which the S7-1200 needs a whole motion control to [emulate] the same function.

For me at least the convert program has a place when used with an aim. The removal of the S7-200 (for us) leaves a gap between the LOGO and the other S7 PLCs.

And just as a side note... saying that the convert software is worthless and that designing from scratch is the (only) best way, does leave the door wide open to convert the S7-200 program to convert to a brand that is NOT Siemens.
