Monitoring Output current

Plandry Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Hi, I would like to know if somebody knows a way to monitor the output current of an output. For example, I want to connect an actuaror on a siemens logo! relay ouput and I want to monitor the current of the actuator the way to know if he is blocked or over forcing. So what i thought is to buy a current transducer to convert the current into 0-10volts... ButI cannot find one to do that.... So my question is... Is thereany way to do that? Thanks, Pierre-Paul

So, when my output current will exceed for exemple 3amps (detected by analog input) i wish to stop my output. It's a kind of protection againts high current for my actuator. I'll go check about a DC current to DC voltage converter... Thanks, Pierre-Paul

Tim Jackson Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	The simple answer would be a "current monitoring relay" which will give you a digital signal if the current exceeds a specified threshold. These are readily available from many manufacturers, for DC, single phase or 3-phase actuators. If you actually want to do something analogue with the current than you will need a sensor (shunt resistor or current transformer) and an instrument amplifier, which is simple enough to do in electronics but not so easy to find in control gear. Some motor drives can also be programmed to give a suitable analogue or digital output. Tim Jackson
