Dear all,

I was stupid enough to connect a cb1241 RS485 into my CPU without cutting the power off. When the CPU is now powered there is on oronge light that turns on the first second but then it stops. I am afraid that something in the CPU is fried. I checked visually but nothing seems odd. Is there anything I can do to fix this or is the only solution a new CPU. The CPU is the 1217c.

Unfortunate condition. 

However lesson learned clearly. 

Don't connect any device extension to a CPU without a total power shutdown of the CPU and most importantly a clear understanding of the newly device connection requirement through the product information provided by Siemens. 

The question is which of the signal lamp is blinking orange? 

If it is the First signal lamp (Run/Stop Lamp; which indicates the state of the CPU condition when it is running) that is blinking yellow, you can check the following.

1. Check if the CPU is still ok or you have wrongly installed the CB1241 RS485 at the connection pin by disconnect the CB1241 RS485 and power on the CPU back. If the CPU comes on with a orange light signal Woolaaah for us.

2. If the second lamp (Error lamp signal lights) indicates red check your software code

3. If the third lamp (Maintenance lamp signal light) indicates check your hardware.

 It is not a usual signal lamp. It is a signal lamp of the second ethernet port, and it just blinks the fist second the cpu is powerd. After that there are no leds lighting up...
