I need to establish communication between an ABB Soft Starter PXTS and a Siemens S7-400 PLC. Has anyone implemented this setup before or has experience with its communication parameters?

• Which communication protocol should be used? ( Profibus)
• PLC Programming Required

I do not have the experience with ABB PXTS yhat you would be hoping for, but I did find the following document discussing the Profibus interface for your softstarter:

It also mentions the name of the gsd file you need to install in your Step 7 software in order to include a PXTS slave in your S7-400 program. If you do not have it yet, the ABB main site allows you to search for all their products including configuration files for different supported protocols;  for Profibus, that would be the gsd file.

When the gsd file is integrated in Step 7, you can insert an instance of the softstarter in HWConfig, with the number of I/O registers needed for data exchanges with the PLC appearing automatically.

What software (and version) of Step 7 are you using now, if you have issues setting up the gsd file for example we could help you better knowing that.
