Hi everyone,

I want to generate a QR code in siemens comfort HMI. I have referred the https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/106226404/toolbox-for-hmi-projects?dti=0&lc=en-DE for tool box and it has code for QR code generation. 

But it has limit of only 17 characters, does anyone know how we can increase this length of characters for QR code generation??

Hi,

In general, the example application for WinCC Comfort/Advanced is only designed for a maximum of 17 characters with regard to the QR code.

You can use the simpler structure of the QR code up to 17 characters -> 21*21 elements (box times boxes).

from 18 characters -> 25*25 elements, however, a different structure must be used here.

from 33 characters -> 29*29 elements, however, a different structure must be used here.

Generally, you could expand a QR code to up to several thousand characters with a maximum of 177x177 elements, but this would exceed the computing power and the display of objects per image on these HMI panels.

The application example can certainly be expanded, but then you have to deal with the QR code matter and implement the algorithms for calculating error correction and coding yourself.

It should be noted that the more elements that have to be shown and hidden in the script, the longer the running time of the script is and therefore at the expense of performance.

The conclusion is certainly that the example can be expanded and correspondingly larger QRs can be implemented, but unfortunately there are neither examples nor have these application examples been officially released or system tested by Siemens.

No, I haven't found any solution to this problem. I tried to study the script which is written for the 17-character QR code but it is a little more technical and we need to study how the QR code works. Even the QR code object is a group of many objects, so even if we manage to change the code for more than 17 characters, we also need to make arrangements in that object, which is practically not possible. 

I have not got any official siemens response on this problem, so not sure if it is really possible to extend the character limit or not.

Ok thank you for your feedback. I reading many documentation about generation of QR Code.

With this code, we must use only specific QR Code model and Mask model (L Mask Pattern: i%2 = 0), if we want more characters, i think we need to change of models.

For the changement of the code as you want, you can replace the variable "LHmiData_textForQRCode" by your variable in ASCII characters.

I continue to modify the script (28 characters), then test but i am block on Reed Solomon code. I share you my code if it can help.
