Pedro Ascencio Posts: 56 Rating: (2)	Dear Sirs I would really apreciate your advice and knowledge please. We need to wire digital inputs located far away, about 550 meters. However we do not have specific information about Vendor if this distance is supported by digitals input cards. Anyone knows what is the right way to determinate or calculate what it is the maximun distance supported?. In our case the signals are simple dry contacts in 120 Vac without any interconnection in the loop (direct). Many thansk in advance kind regards Pedro

Is not be better to make a Remote I/O connected with one cable only to the Master. That Remote I/O will be placed near by the equipment from where will collect the signals. I think the digital cards technology could be rather similar, and also a theoretical calculation of the drop voltajegets a similar distance. However we need a confirmation, because it could have a worse performace. kind regards Pedro

dchartier Grandmaster Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 9/14/2025 Posts: 12408 Rating: (2717)	Hello Pedro; I believe you should then contact your Yokogawa rep, or their tech support, as It will depend on the wire specs (capacitance and distributed oimpedance are important factors), the presence of a shield, the power available at the input/output circuits of the digital modules. (100 pF/m) for AC and 600 m. for DC" Whe I have some data from Yokogawa I will inform. Kind regards Pedro

As you discovered, you can never assume that what is valid for one manufacturer is also good for another. You do need to recieve this kind of information from your Yogogawa ealer.
