Valli Posts: 262 Rating: (45)	Hi, to understand it better, let us take 2 examples... 1) Distribution system having One ACB for trafo as incomer and One ACB for DG as backup. Purpose: if main incommer ACB trips then DG will be switched on to supply the power. To ensure, when One ACB is on another should not ON we used castle key. That means we put lock to each ACB but there will be only one key to open it say Key type A. With this Key you can Lock the ACBs ON button and take out the key. In the mean time you can put key in the other ACB which has fault, this indicated that the ACB is under maintenance. Funtionality test. While pressing the OFF button, turn the key clockwise to the locking position. ● Remove the key. ● The circuit breaker cannot close when in this position. 2) Mutliple ACBs are connected to same bus and they have to be ON in some condition like 2 ACBs simultaneously or so... then only one type of castle key will not work you can have type A, Type B or so mounted on those sets of breaker which has to be interlocked. One line answer....Change Over Panels/ Application for DG Set / Trafo whichare fabricated as per IS/ IECstandardmust use Castle Key to avoid any kind of accidental during change over. Castle key is purely used in manual change over operation which are replaced with PLC based system.

In complex change over logics say say3 incommer, 3DG, 4 bus couplers, if you have exhausted all types of castell you can order Type AB, AC... . Its purly nomanclature.
