We have now a Field PG.

I'm looking for two things:

a) I have a cable was provided with PG710, for programming Step 5. Is it this cable useful for my new Field PG?

b) If I want use the Serial V24 as a standard com, is it pinout like 25Pin com? (2,3 and 7)

as Christoph asked, better check for first. In other side (as you said you have new PG), also in PG M4 an newest is standard serial COM port 25 pin and therefore can use that S5 TTY cable in my opinion.

you have ordered without S5 support, so the COM1 is only RS232/V.24 and no TTY .

a) no is not possible.

thnx for other info, but yes, that port is RS-232 25 pin and cable is in middle converter from RS-232 25 to TTY, same I was able use via this port but in M4. Really don't know about M5 functionality with S5 (which system of connection is delivered due order).

Update: I just think that with other than Siemens Step5 SW working on oldest OS, some other SWs solution exists and probably can be used via that PG RS-232 port with that TTY adapter cable for S5 programming, also can be used on new OS. I recommend making tests, no other way.

Update2: what exact cable order number is it? Hope is that my mentioned on one side RS-232 and TTY on other side.

just some clarifications:

1. A Field PG with S5 option has TTY hardware support on the mainboard, thus the 25 pin connector uses additional pins for TTY signals. The cable has not such function.
2. STEP 5 is released on a Field PG. Within Win 7 a so called sandbox (protected virtual OS environment) is running.

@dearcole:

a) TTY is not possible, the S5 programming cable is not useful with your new Field PG!

b) Yes. Normally a RS232 adapter 25pin to 9pin is shipped with a Field PG to use standard serial cables with 9pin connectors.
