I'm new to the motion control world, and I'm working currently on a project which is an industrial Delta robot prototype, that needs 3 SIEMENS servo motors for its 3 arms.

In fact, I'm not sure whether to choose servo motors with holding brake or without. So I wanted to ask about the specific role of the holding brake in order to make a decision.

Is the holding brake, of a SIEMENS servo motor, used only to hold the driven load and to maintain the last position of the motor shaft when the power is OFF? or it's also used to provide dynamic braking by decelerating the motor shaft?
