It is only possible to upgrade the software version if you have an offline project.

For your case you will need Step7 V14 to upload the program from the PLC to the PC. Then the uploaded project can be converted to V18.

Installing Step7 V14 on a PC that has Step7 V18 is possible. Running Step7 V18 with the license of Step7 V18 is also possible. Unfortunately the installation files are not available on Siemens' site anymore. So if you want Step7 V14 install files, you will need to contact Siemens. You can use the "Support Request" link.

Open the V14 project in V18. Make sure your V18 has the latest updates available installed to make the project upgrade go as smoothly as possible.

Compile / rebuild all the upgraded (new V18) project.

If it builds fine, download to your S7-1200 PLC.

Now you own the project since the original V14 project is no longer in use and V14 cannot be used to go online with the PLC.

Last step is to verify proper function of the upgraded project.  That is usually the longest time suck.

I have been assigned a project in which I have to restore a system which was initially developed by someone who is not available right now.

Things I am using:

1) PLC S7-1200 (1212C AC/DC/Rly)

2) Version of TIA Portal which was used previouly is V14

3) Verison I am using rightnow is V18

Now, the thing is controller is same which was used to develop a system for the first time. I have connected it successfully with the newer version of TIA-Portal (V18). And the programm which was previously stored in it with old version(V14) is still their. And when I go online with the controller it gives me an error which says:

The program on the CPU is incompatible with the STEP7 project. Version of the program on the CPU: V14 --> Version of the STEP 7 project: V18

Now my question is can I migrate the old program which was written on old V14 to a new V18 of TIA Portal?
