the hawk Posts: 23 Rating: (0)	high speed counter i have a cartoning machine i am makig its program i use hsc to determine position of the rotating axis and depend on it to give orders but i suffer a problem that when awitching off the power i loose all values so i loose the hsc value so when starting the machine it will start from different position and the hsc value wil be(0) and start counting and all my values will be wrong. is there any way to keep the value in any memory when switching off i know that i can load the present value when starting but the problem is how to keep it when switching off i expect ur answer quickly hank u

The differences have been discussed in this thread. And after reading the above thread link, I think if you would like to keep the position of the shaft although if the power switched off, then you have to use absolute encoder. And keep in mind if you changed your sellection from incremental to absolute encoder, this will have a reflection on the sellection of FM which reads the encoder signal. Or you can select profibus absolute encoder. Regards,

the hawk Posts: 23 Rating: (0)	thank u for ur fast response but i know the difference between them .the problem is that i s7-200 the hsc instruction is specified for incremental encoders just. but let's talk in general isn't there any memory type in s7-200 which keeps its content after power switching off . thank u again

Thus because, if you lost the position after power failure ( I mean here, if you switched off the machine for a long time; may be for maintaince purpose or due to production requirements), then wrong actions will happen and may deffects mechanical parts of the machine. Helmut_13 Posts: 2930 Rating: (432)	Hi, the only idea I hvae is to use merker <MB14. This marker are set as nonretentive by default. You can use this marker to set the PV of a hsc. The benefit is: If this marker MB0 ...MB13 are set as retentive, then the PLC is able to save it in the EEPROM automatically while the power is switched off. So there is no time limit for the values. Possible problem: This only works as long as you do not move wile the power is switched off. If this happens in your maschine then I know of no sollution with S7-200. By the way: You are right, absolute encoder is not possible with S7-200. I hope this helps
