A very basic functionality to implement is for the PLC to echo whatever character - or string - you send it. Is this working, i.e. can you send a single character and then the PLC echo it back to you? Please explain the problem in more detail if the answer didn't help you. Regards, Aristotelis

Regards, Aristotelis 1- the program is running. 2- no, am not communicating through the serial, but i do have a MOXA USB-to-Serial adaptor 3-i configuered the hyper terminal as well but still i can't send a signal character thanks

Aristotelis Posts: 147 Rating: (34)	There are 2 ways of communicating between PC & PLC: 1) The PLC sends data to the PC. 2) The PC sends data to the PLC. Have you tried to implement each and every one of them separately? Are they working? Check MAS 5 ( http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/21063345 ), it is using a GSM modem with serial communication, maybe the code can help you. Have you checked the serial cable? Maybe there is something wrong with it. By using the port in Freeport mode, you can't have the PPI cable connected, it won't work. If there is an alternative way to communicate with the CPU (e.g. another port, ethernet), try and debug the program and check if there is something wrong with it. My first approach, however, would be to transmit a single character (e.g. "A") from the PLC to the PC when a digital input is on. Then, if this works fine, I would try to send a single character from the PC to the PLC, and just watch the character be put in memory. Finally, combining these two programs, I would have single characters going from PC to PLC and vice versa. If the program worked OK with single characters, then I would try my luck with strings of characters. Please let us know how things work out. Aristotelis

Sorry, but i think you will not be able to entablish the comunication until you get a SIEMENS (or other company)PPI interface like the USB-PC adapter or SERIAL-PC adapter. The protocol used by S7200 comnication port Is PPI (Point to point interface), and it is a litle bit diferent of RS232, so you can not acces to S7200 CPU by using a simple USB-SERIAL converter or adapter. mihaiveress Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	hello this is my first post so hope i won't make huge mistakes i had that problem to untill i found a RS485 -> RS232 converter on the PLC it isn't a direct RS232 serial communication look on your ppi multimaster cable if it says RS485 or RS232 Today i received such a converter and worked with the example from help 2 EDIT: omg....just saw the day of the last post...sry for bump

fqiang Posts: 23 Rating: (0)	the converter(usb-485) using PL-2303 Windows XP/2000 Driver works well by freeport. But Siemens USB-PPI donot support freeport.
