transfer program from one plc to another

Biagio Russo Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Thanks a lot for your information, I solved the issue of PC - PLC communication but now the problem is that whae I try to take the sofware of PLC to upload in the PC it request a password, as I told before the old company closed and I don't have any possibility to contact them, I must take the program in a PLC and insert in the new one. Have you suggestion? I am available also to call somebody to give more instruction or to clarify better the issue. Best Regards Biagio Russo Splitted from Communication Problem between PC and PLC.

From one side you protect software (it's normal, nothing is free). From other side is very easy to manipulate the other your colleagues, your customers...But always have opportunity to delete (reset) the CPU as delivery state (no program inside) and build yours program... Biagio Russo Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	I agree, but in this case I can prove that ownership of Automation is of the company where I should transfer the program and the company that design the automation closed because failed. No people exist anymore from that company. There is somebody in Siemens that can support this service?

Helmut_13 Posts: 2930 Rating: (432)	Hi, I agree. A PW is to protect a program and the developers "Brain". I'm sure there is a way to get the program out of the PLC. But this from my side can only be done if the rights of the program are 100% clear! How will someone verify that he is the owner (by law) if he does not know the PW? However, I would never accept and by a machine with a PW protection without the PW. This always makes troubles later on. S7-200 PW: In S7-200 4 levels of PW can be defined. If the PW has level 4, then there is no way. You can only delete/reset and download a new program. If you don't have the MicroWIN project then there is nothing you can do to upload the program. If the PLC is destroyed, then you can try to replace the controller PCB from one PLC and build it into a new PLC. And pray that the controller board is not damaged. I'm sure you will loseguarantee in this case. If you want to try this, please note the rules to handle this (protection for ESD, grounding ...) Hope this helps
