Anchobi Posts: 139 Rating: (25)	Please check the diagnostic buffer in the PLC from the ONLINE menu and select online and diagnostics Can you describe what you find there. There are many reasons for the CPU going into stop. The CPU will probably be trying to call an OB that is not loaded. There will be a reason why this OB is being called. such as program error, hardware conflict, comm fault. etc. Is this a new installation or a system that has been running and suddenly is not working?

Anchobi Posts: 139 Rating: (25)	OB is short for an organisation block. This are the equivalent to interupt service routines which form part of the S7 controller. The one for the cyclic program is OB1. This is where you call most your functions from. There are plenty of other OBs. Some are cyclic interupts, some are time of day interupts and some are fault generated. So if for example you lost comms with one of the IO racks. An OB will be called. If you do not have the particular OB relating to the fault in your PLC then your PLC will go into stop. If you do have the OB in yourPLC then the PLC will stay in run, but in this case your system must allow loss of a IO rack, an typically what you would do ( you dont have to ) is write some fault handling code or alarm code that identifies the problem for your higher level system. In alot of applications it is not desiriable to allow allow the loss of an IO rack and you do want the PLC to go into stop in this case. Some case you really dont want the PLC to stop. Hardware faults are another common thing that may out of the blue cause your system to go into stop. Also programming faults are another, for instance there is a conditional call to a function but the function has not been downloaded. Or a read from a Datablock of a variable that does not exist or no longer exists or a datablock that does not exist all together. Another thing you can do is do a comparision of your offline program with the online program. Maybe someone updtaed a function but forgot to load or update the datablock. Does you offline program compile without errors?

Do you have the original program and what version of the TIA Portal software do you have for the programming and troubleshooting of the PLC problems? What firmware is installed in the PLC? The answers to those questions will help answer your original questions.
