If so then I don't see any problems. Just use correct hardware required for certain communication type of your choice. I'm nearly 100% sure that it will be possible, because without having drivers for Siemens you can loose big part of a market.

Helmut_13 Posts: 2930 Rating: (432)	Hi, Addition notes to Darius answere. If the ABB does not have a communication driver, the you may need a OPC-Server. You can use S7-200 PC-Access and also Simatic Net OPC server. In this case please check the ABB documentation how to implement OPC-Server to get the data. Hope this helps

Imagine you decide to call me on the phone, and I answer. We now have a physical connection between each other based on shared technology (this is the equivalent of the RS-485 standard, a physical standard that defines signal levels, connections, information packets...) and I am able to hear you. Now to have an understandable communication over the phone line we must also share a common protocol (language): if I only decipher English, speaking to me in Hindi (or Punjabi, or any other language) will make our exchanges vain. A PLC using PPI portocol over RS-485 cannot talk to a PLC using Modbus over the sameRS-485. Modbus datacan be carried over serial links (either RS-232, RS-422or RS-485) and also over Ethernet. The RS-485 port on the S7-200 can be used with PPI, ASCII, USS and Modbus protocols, depending on the communication blocks programmed in the PLC. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
