WINCC Are Index Tags possible in a multi dimensional array?

The problem I have is that I would like the HMI to do the work as I am working on a scan time critical project and am cutting it fine. I can't attach my actual project but have attached a simple version of what I am trying to do. Please not the array sizes in my actual project are a lot bigger. basically i want to be able to input the station number in the HMI screen and use that as the array index on both the single dimension and multi dimension arrays. For the multi dimension arrays I have 10 fields on the screen so only need to use the array index in the first diemension. Hopefully you'll be able to see what i'm trying to do and you'll see the multi dimension ones in error. In screenshot "PLCTags" you are trying to address array components indirectly in your hmi tag table, but it doesn't work like that. The indirect addressing of array components should be done by the PLC logic (check the program I've attached before). After the logic has been created you can link the two integer tags that indicate the component that needs to be accessed (#x and #y) with the HMI. These index numbers can then be linked to your I/O fields "station number" etc... In your case you could create some logic that moves the values of the components you are pointing to (with #x, #y) to another array with fixed components. Now use that array to link with your hmi. -So indirect addressing of components is best done by the plc program. You might also take a look at multiplexing, it might come in handy in your case. This is my opinion, experts might come up with a better solution. Hope it helped you. And once I find the time I might be able to create a sample program. I'd like to add; I'm only giving my vision, I could be overlooking features I hardly ever used myself and could make the task easier. So feel free to provide any information you have, might be that I can learn somethings myself.

Simlarly the buffer can also write back to master list - which is not shown. I am not too keen in the use of the STRINGs. If there is portions that can be numbers, consider DINT or even LINT (64bit). ~~For the 10 values that needs to be displayed.. my commentary to follow with another JPG.~~ w Attachment Visual clue_Handling an array of structure moved to viewed buffer.jpg (591 Downloads)

The reason why I asked the question was because I knew it was possible with single dimension arrays and hoped it was possible with multi dimensional, and you said it was. I have lots of other methods of achieving the result i want, in the PLC with SCL code is one. I don't need any other suggestions of how I can achieve it. I just want to know if the way I show in my screen shots is possible, and if so what am I doing wrong? Or if it is just not possible to do it that way at all. Kind regards, Toddy

Yes, like I said, it is possible by means of SCL. I didn't even know you could access array components in the PLCdepending on an index by means of winCC. I don't know all new features in V13 so I was just suggesting a solution, now that I know you want it the way you have in mind and no other wayI will not dwell on it any further. May I add I find this a very good question and would really like to see an experts opinion. I'm reading a winCC V13 manual and the only thing I can find is examples with single-dimension arrays. Toddy26 Posts: 7 Rating: (1)	Hi Jens, Hope you didn't think I was coming across as I only want to do it my way. I'm happy doing it other ways, which I have currently had to do. I'm just trying to determine if its something that Siemens haven't made available in TIA yet or whether I have done something wrong. It seems that all the options are there to do it but TIA doesn't let you do at the moment. If I get any answers from Siemens I will post again to let you know the situation. With single element arrays it is very useful being able to index it straight from the HMI with no PLC. If it is also possible with dimensions it will be even better. Kind regards, Toddy

Address multiplexing (index tags)is also available for V11. Now offcourse this doesn't answer your questions. But it does make me more curious about the answer. I find it a shame that I didn't know thisfeature exists, seems it was already there in flexible 2008 too. Would have made my life much easier sometimes. Kind regards, Jens
