bakerjw Posts: 126 Rating: (18)	The other day Pegaia posted a sample project showing motor drive control using Profinet from an S7-1200. I decided to throw together one similar in function for Profibus. I put this small demonstration project together using TIA Portal 11 Professional using an S7-1214 to control a MicroMaster 440 drive. The motor drive is configured with 2 PZD words and 4 PKW words. It is a very basic implementation similar in function to the USS library. The GSD file is included as part of the project. Off 2 and Off 3 need to be set true prior to setting RUN to true. The Speed_SP will accept values between +200.0 and -200.0 with the values being percent of motor speed. There will be Profibus support with the Basic version of the TIA portal when it is released. Attachment S7-1200_MM440_Profibus_DP.zip (3582 Downloads)

How can you send instruccions to start stop and times using just profibus, I mean how can I read and sen status, error, and start/stop bits just with Profibus? Can you help wih this? Best Regards Thanks In advanced With PB (and profinet) you can configure your drive telegram which defines the number and content of the data words passed between the plc & drive. The drive sends a status word which includes several bits that describe the status of various inputs and whether the drive has a fault or warning. The plc sets a control bit and within the control word (if the drive is so configured) can issue start and off bits. The provided example seems like a good start?

Once you have one example, are you not able to convert the FB's to use multi-instance DBs to call for as many drives as you intend to use? Profibus can have quite a few field devices configured and still be fast for control. Generally one working example is what the forums provide, with guidance perhaps on how to implement it for a specific larger problem. We (where I work) tend to use a function block per drive to set the various control bits, allow it to decode the status word, send it drive speed, have it return drive speed/torque and warning and fault codes. Then we just reuse that same block for as many drives as we need. We need a new function, we just revise the one block, and adjust the parameters to/from it, and it's ready to go.

Best Regards Thanks In advanced No, it is not an analog output. This example outputs the speed setpoint and the control word to the output addresses given by the device's PROFIBUS configuration. To check this, go to Devices and Networks (sorry if it's not exactly the same name, I'm translating from my spanish version), and then, while on the Network View tab, double click on Slave_1 MICROMASTER 4. Device view will now be accesed for the DP Slave, and you will see that it will have two telegrams configured as 4PKW, 2PZD. The first one has Input Output address 92 to 99. This corresponds to the four PKW words (92/93 first, 94/95 second and so on). These are not used in this particular project. The second one has Input Output addresses 100 to 103 which correspond to the two PZD words. Normally the first word is used as Control Word for the drive (QW100), which has all the control bits such as ON/OFF, JOG, Direction and so on. The second word is the speed setpoint (QW102). To communicate with your slave, all you need to do is write in the corresponding output areas as if it was any other variable in your program, and the PLC will take care of the actual communication process. It is very important that the drive is accordingly configured first, meaning that the same PROFIBUS telegram must be applied to it during its commissioning. To read the status of the drive (which is not done in this project) all you need to do is read the addresses given by the device's configuration (IW100 for status word 1 and IW102 for status word 2). The specific meaning of these words can be found on MM440 manual or can be configured during its commissioning. If you need to control several drives, all you need to do is add them on the network and asign them different PROFIBUS addresses, configure the telegram you wish to use on them and asign the input output address to write and read from/to them. In this case you could use different instances of FC1 with the corresponding addresses of your new configured drives. Hope that helps!!

Did you do the binary bit masking to see what commands you are sending? It might tell you that you turned on bit 10 (plc control), turned on OFF2, and toggled ON/OFF1. There is a nice FAQ with descriptions on how to do what you are talking about. The only real difference is the technology used. G120 and profinet/profibus. Siemens made blocks to encode and decode the various telegram words used to control and monitor the drive. I'd recommend using them.
