Diesel Level Transmitter

PILearner Posts: 80 Rating: (1)	we have two tanks of dimensions Tank 1: w=11.5 ft Tank 2 : w=35.5 inch L=34.5 inches L= 134 inch H= 15.5 inches H= 13.5 Inch The Heights are too small. so which level transmitter shall I use? Shall I use a capacitance based or a radar or a guided radar one? These are storage tanks with no obstructions or stirrers in it. The pressure and temperature are ambient . which considering our environment will normally be upto 40 t0 50 in summers and in winters close to freezing point I selected LR 250 flanged version but the one with 2" horn comes with a minimum of dk of 3 and if installed in a still pipe the minimum dk is 1.6. I want to avoid using a still pipe. so what other solution can I have shall I go for a guided wave radar or a capacitance based one ?

Levelmans Posts: 124 Rating: (45)	Dear PILeaner , 380 mm and 342 mm are very less. The LR250 is not useable for such a short ranges. The TDRLG250 with rod probe would do the job, but the deadband for a medium withsuch a low DK like diesel will be 150 mm here. I guess that this is not acceptable. Mysuggestion will be to go for the LC300 stilling well (coax) version . With best Regards Levelmans

Levelmans Posts: 124 Rating: (45)	Dear PILearner , The principle of the capacitance level measurement is like fora capacitor, based on the change in capacitance through the change of the level - The probe electrode is one plate of the capacitor - The METALLIC tank wall is the reference electrode - The REFERENCE ELECTRODE must be grounded The electronic component of the LC300 contains the measurement module (driver) and the microprocessor module. This set of parts forms a calibrated pair that measures process capacitance in pico Farads (pF) which is proportional to the level of material in the tank. If you want to use a cable or a rod probe for a non-conductive medium like Diesel, you have to ensure : - There is a straight metallic tank wall parallel to the probe - That the distance between the probe (electrode) and the wall (reference electrode )is not higher than around 150 mm. By using a probe with integrated stilling well (coax) you are on the safe side, because the stilling well is also the reference electrode here.As wellfictures inside of the vessel will have no influence for the measurement, because the internal probe is “shielded” by the stilling well.A close installed cable or rod probe of the LC could give you trouble if this is located close to a fixture. PILearner Posts: 80 Rating: (1)	The product That I have selected has the following codeS 7ML5671-0DA00-1CA-ZY01 Y01= 393.70 mm 7ML5671-0DA00-1CA-ZY01 Y01=342.9 mm On Page 4/310 of the selection catalogue, the dimensional drawing shows Y01(insertion Length)= Measuring Length + Y02 where Y02= 100 mm so if I select Y01 393.70 mm and Y02 is 100 mm then the actual measuring length turns out to be 293.70 mm. What I understand from this is the transmitter will only measure for only 293.70 mm. this height is quite less than what I need to measure ? If I am wrong please explain it to me Best regards Naeem Khan

Levelmans Posts: 124 Rating: (45)	Wecan´t measure a non-conductive medium inside of a plastic vessel with the rod or the cable probe.This can only be done with the stlling well version. The stilling well itself works likethe reference electrode (metall made silo wall). Both of your selectedversions are useable for diesel. Y02 is not relevant for a stilling well because the probe inside is shielded by the stilling well itself. You only have to select Y01 here. Cheers Levelmans
