Hi!

I'm very new to TIA Portal and I (of course) encountered some problems. Most of the time I can fix it by watching other existing topics, but this time I couldn't' t find anything that worked...

I have a system where it is important to personally select which actuators are active in the system. This I can select on a HMI.

In the PLC program I can receive the 30 individual boolean values, positive (ON) or negative (OFF).

Despite of the rest of the program, handling these inputs I also have to count them so that I can show the value of the positive actuators on the HMI (positive actuators: xx).

I wanted to use Bitsum, but then I have to make a Dword out of my individual boolean values that are in a struct. Couldn't find a solotiun. And then I tried to find another solution for Bitsum but also didn't got far...

Can anyone help me with this problem, it doesn't really matter the way it's done.

What PLC do you have?

Available instructions are depending on PLC and its FW.

With S7-1200/1500 this could help:

How are the bits presented? Is it ordered in an array or is it random bits?

Assuming random bits:
+ Create an FC
+ Add 32 BOOL inputs (INx)
+ Add an INT output used for the count
+ Code as the animation shows.

The first option with AT did not work on my PLC.

The second option I just put in my program, but doesn't it have to be a loop? Like, when you stop one of the already counted actuators?

The third i'm going to try now! I will let you know if it works and yes, the booleans are random and ordered from 1 to 30 in a struct. They' re not in an array.

Are you sure you understand how PLCs work?

The video was great to understand it better. But probably I do something wrong, because it won't even accept the "+" instruction? I added a screenshot.

And Jacek...As i said i'm totally new figuring everything out. I know a PLC goes through a loop continuously, but you have to understand that for someone (like me) with no knowledge of PLCs .It can probably be hard to understand how FBs, FCs, ect get handled within a program from a PLC. That's why there are beginners as well as professionals on this platform to help en learn things to each other.

But besides that, thank you for your code and also from that comment I got wiser. Till now on it's the only solution that worked, but i'm still open and going to try the others as it's my learning proces .

I haven' t tested it yet, but if this works that would be amazing because I don' t have to use an extra FC.
