I'm starting to get the impression I'm reading the wrong parts of the manual.

What does RT(Runtime) refer to? Are they feature for PC based panels or are those features also available for Comfort and basic panels?

Hello,

In simple words, RT(tag based license + software) is required for SCADA .PC based Visualization (WinCC 7.x,WinCC professional , WinCC advanced , WinCC flex).

For SCADA application you need both engineering +Runtime package .

For panel you don't need RT, only engineering package is sufficient to develop the project.

As per as i know Recipe Query function is supported by only WinCC Run-time Professional.

What I find quite confusing is the use of what I consider software/license versions to imply hardware type. So when you write "the Recipe system of WInCC Professional RT is completely different to the Recipe system in WinCC Comfort/Advanced.", I'm thinking, well the software version I am using is WinCC Professional then why can't I find recipe queries? And I think what you mean is(  please correct me if I'm wrong) the hardware I am using (TP700) which doesn't require Wincc Professional does not support recipe queries. Right?

Hello Dear,

Yes, your right. Recipe management of WinCC RT professional (same like WinCC 7.x) is different than WinCC comfort or advanced.

Now if you have WinCC professional installed then you can configure the Basic HMI, comfort HMI, other panels, WinCC advanced SCADA or WinCC professional Scada.

Let say if  you need to configure only TP700  comfort series then only TIA portal comfort package is sufficient. You dont need WinCC professional package.

Basic panels and Comfort panels are running on an embedded version of Windows.

The project is transfered into a embedded version of WinCC runtime.

You can see the start center with the 4 buttons(Transfer, Start, Control panel and Taskbar), there is WinCC Internet settings in the control panels, etc...

I totally agree with you when you say you don't need to add runtime to you HMI, but when Kal.A speak about a manual refering to runtime, it can also refer to the runtime of the HMI.

I don't want to play with words, but they talk about runtime into the comfort panel manual.

Yes, you are absolutely right.

Every engineered application need run-time for execution. It doesn't matter that its PLC,HMI,SCADA, VB/C/C# based application etc need run-time for execution.

Here some of the device having embedded run-time package and some needs extra run-time package like SCADA to run the system.

So don't get confusion  for HMI run-time and SCADA run-time.

Even for PLC also, Once you developed logic for PLC and downloaded in PLC then for running your logic you need to put PLC in run-time ( start PLC-Run mode) like start run-time of HMI But for that you don't need any extra Run-time package. Its already embedded in device its self.

It means HMI Run- then time is nothing but after downloading engineered application in HMI you need to put that application in Run-time mode.

So let's say I'm asking if I can upload hardware configuration from s7-1212C  version 3 and the answer is that it's possible only with version 4 (regardless of the type of s7-1200 CPU it is) . Is that the case?  Does runtime refer to the software that runs on the panel?

Ok let me explain then.

There are the HMI panels, which are the Basic panels, the Key panels, the Comfort panels and the Mobile panels.

It is also possible to install WinCC Runtime Advanced or WinCC Runtime Professional on a PC base, like an IPC (Industrial PC).

You asked about "Recipe queries", which is only available in WinCC Runtime Professional, see attach file.

You can use recipes in basic, comfort and runtime, see the excel comparison table in the link below.
