Flexible SQL error at startup (how to fix this?)

Remark Bronze Member Joined: 9/1/2006 Last visit: 8/1/2024 Posts: 193 Rating: (13)	Since a week 2 of our programmer notebooks give an error when WinCC flexible (2008) is started from Step7 by opening an existing project. The error message is: Cannot connect to configured SQL server Make sure that the service MSSQL$WINCCFLEXEXPRESS is running and not disabled If the error persists, reinstall the WinCC flexible DB server (see Readme). Also creation of a new flex project fails. The project is OK if we open it on another system. Recently we installed a Microsoft automatic update but i am not sure if this error occured the day after the update. The MSSQL services are running according to SQL service manager (taskbar icon). Has anyone else had the same error and how is there a fix ? Also installing the just released SP1 for 2008 doesnot help. How can i reinstall the WinCC flexible DB server ? i can't fnd it in the readme. I hope that someone can help us as we need flex to work asap for a project finalization. best regards, Remark

Are you sure that MSSQL$WINCCFLEXEXPRESS service is running ? If not then I suggest to reinstall WinCC Flexible 2008. By reinstallint it you will also reinstall MSSQL$WINCCFLEXEXPRESS SQL instance. This may fix the problem. Don't bother trying to fix SQL instance, because I had similar problem and lost 3 days trying to fix SQL instance and end with reinstall anyway. I think it is better to uninstall WinCC Flex and then uninstall all SQL instances from add/remove and then install WInCC Flexible away. It must help.

I re-installed it but still get an error if i try to create a new project...another messagethen before but same sort i guess (probably still no communication with the SQL database) Creation of template failed Hopefully support can give me an answer. best regards, Remark

I removed a whole list of programs with "Add/remove programs" WinCC flexible 2008 Microsoft SQL server 2005 Microsoft SQL server desktop engine (WinnCCflex) Microsoft SQL server Native client Microsoft SQL server VSS writer I also removed the directory as described in the FAQ that UMENCHO listed above. %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\WINCCFLEXEXPRESS Deleted the directories (otherwise reinstall SQL failed) C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$WINCCFLEXIBLE and C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1 After reboot I re-installed WinnCC fluxable 2008 again and finally it works again.... What caused this problem is unknown !? best regards, Remark

We suspect Windows update KB967715 to cause these problems, this has to do with: "How to correct "disable Autorun registry key" enforcement in Windows" We use Win XP Prof. english SP3. Any other ideas about the cause and who knows a quick cure for this ? best regards, Remark
