To the best of my knowledge the 1212c analog input is only 0-10V, with very high input resistance (I think ~100kohm).

That being said, it is very simple to convert typical 4-20mA signal to voltage by wiring 500 ohm resistor between AI0, and 2M. This would convert 4-20mA to 2-10V. There is a loss of resolution of 20%, but as usual you lose some, you gain some. Now it is possible to interpret anything below 1V (for example) as broken sensor wire, and act accordingly.

Out of box my analog inputs were mapped to:

AI0 - IW64, and AI1 - IW66. A simple test can be made to where you compare analog input with another analog input, or any other word sized number, and trigger some output.

I have done the testing of Distance sensor of 4-20mA (0-6 Mtr) with the CPU 1214C which is having the analog voltage input using the 500 Ohm resistor.  The program is working fine and the values were also coming. 

I have tried to scale the received value to show the distance but no succefull. The sensor generates the value upto 27648. 

For your reference  i have attached the program,

have you had a look in the manual of the S7-1200?

the value in the S7-PLC is from 0-27648, regarding to 4-20mA.

you can read this in chapter A.8.6:

SIMATIC S7 S7-1200 Programmable controller

you can scale this in a value as you want withe NORM_X and SCALE_X blocks in S7-1200.
