Good morning,

I have a MM440 6SE6440-2UC13-7AA1 with a PC Inverter Connection Kit 6SE6400-1PC00-0AA0 that I normally connect and read through a PG M2, no problem at all.

At the moment I do not have the PG Computer with me and trying to use a laptop HP ProBook 6560b which has a RS232 port. 

Firstly I tried to connect to the MM440 through a virtual machine hosted on VMware Workstation 14 but the STARTER did not see anything. COM port configuration was the same on laptop and virtual machine, also in PG/PC Interface - DEVICE mode. Does anyone know how to solve compatibility/reading problems between MM440-RS232 and VWware?

As my first option did not work I installed the STARTER directly on the computer and adjusted COM port config and PG/PC Interface to be sure they matched but still I cannot connect. Now STARTER can see the node but seems like in light grey and cannot connect. Does anyone know why the driver is seen but does not allow me to include it on my project and go online?

Look in to 'Properties - PC COM - Port (USS)'

Select RS485 Tab, select 'Automatic mode'

Unfortunately it did not work. I can see the node but it pops up in light grey with the question mark "?" on top of it.. and I cannot figure out what this means...

Any help will be very appreciated it.

Hi had another look at this today but could not replicate what you have, I have come across some PC's which are a bit 'flaky' with STARTER.

Not much help at this time I am afraid.

I have installed STARTER V5.1. I chose this one in particular since I know the MM440 is been programmed with that version. I did the programming myself but with a PG M2...

I heard same thing Tractor is mentioning above: some computers cannot go with STARTER and RS232. I never tried before MM440 with this computer but was confident to be able to as I use DriveMon with Masterdrives through the RS232 port succesfully...

Maybe the Drivemon is causing issues with the starter installation. Which software was installed when? Did you have full rights to install?

Drivemon has been installed and running fine on this computer for almost a year. Starter was installed last weekend. Both softwares were directly downloaded with my credentials on the Siemens site.

 Did you try to use "Drivemon" to connect MM440, I think I used that way to connected and back up/restore
