I usually design an architecture with an I/O Controller and distributed I/Os.

e.g.: ET200S IM 151-8 as Profinet I/O Controller and a Phoenix Profinet Module as Remote I/O

On the program I declare the I/Os of my ET200S (e.g. I0.0~I7.7) and the Profinet Module (e.g. I8.0 ~ I12.7). So on my user program I access all the I/Os directly with the Process Image that is built on the ET200S.

Now I'm programming an architecture that is already built, with 2x S7-1200. Can I configure one of them as Profinet Controller and the other as Remote I/O only? The user program would only be processed on the Master PLC, the other PLC would be just Slave I/O. Is that possible or I need to exchange data with the PUT/GET instructions?

Also, is there any way of accessing indirectly the I/Os on the 1200 with the instructions %QX and %IX, same as the S7-300 family?

Again, software version, cpu version matters a lot.

You can do i device communication between cpu to cpu, get/put communication, open user communication as per data size and requirements.

With IDevice you can map virtual memory not a physical addresses. With the help of move or load transfer instructions, you need to pass from Phyical to virtual memory addresses and vice versa.

Only thru modbus tcp you can trasfer real input and output address of s71200 and which is free of license

I'm trying to avoid using PUT/GET. If it's possible to use the other PLC the same as a Slave Remote I/O it would be a lot faster.

Thanks for your answers, it helped me finding the answer. The problem is, the code for the 1214C that I have passed is a 75kb V3.0 PLC, this is the correct code for the one that I have. But the I-Device feature is only available on firmware V4.0, that's only on the 1214C CPU with 100kB. So I have found why I couldn't find the configuration for Slave I/O.

As for the other question, I have found the instruction for the processor architecture which are PEEK_BOOL and POKE_BOOL.

My dear friend, I'm sorry, I did forget to tell the specification for the PLC on my first post. But after the first reply, I replied the part number for the PLC. Which was the one I'm having problem with setting up the hardware configuration.

Dear William_B, unfortunately the PLC is already defined as the process is running. We're only gonna update the software, so ALL the hardware (PLCs, wiring, field devices, ...) is going to stay the same.
